AND
DISTRIBUTION CENTER IN THE PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF
CHINA
New
PLUS® subsidiary, SHANTOU PLUS INSTRUMENTS
LTD., becomes the first company to be licensed by the Chinese government
to manufacture and sell digital projectors in China;
Based
in Shantou City, in the Guandong area of China, SHANTOU PLUS
INSTRUMENTS is expected to produce 33,000 projectors during its
first
full year of operation, which commenced February 7, 2001.
ALLENDALE,
NEW JERSEY, March, 2001 Moving aggressively to lower its
manufacturing costs while taking an early lead in an important new
geographic market, PLUS® Corporation of Japan today announced
that it has opened the first digital projector production and distribution
center in the Peoples Republic of China. The new center, which commenced
operations on February 7, 2001, is a subsidiary corporation called
SHANTOU PLUS INSTRUMENTS LTD., formed in partnership with the company's
Hong Kong based sales agent, ON SYSTEM LTD., and China based sales
agent, SHANTOU XUNTAI CO., LTD.
More
importantly for the strategic long-term goals of PLUS®, SHANTOU
PLUS is the first company to be licensed by the Chinese government
to manufacture and sell digital projectors in China. It is expected
that SHANTOU PLUS will manufacture and distribute 33,000 units worldwide
during its first full year of operation and enable the company to
lower its overall cost of manufacturing which will strengthen
PLUS®' competitive position in worldwide projector markets.
"The
opening of this new production and distribution center in China
will have a major impact on our worldwide sales and marketing efforts,"
today said PLUS® Corporation of America President Tom Oishi.
"Because we are the first company to receive a license to manufacture
and market digital projectors in the critically important domestic
Chinese market, we can expect to realize immediate increases in
our sales volume, which will add to our worldwide market share.
At the same time, because this facility will effectively reduce
our cost of manufacturing, PLUS® will be able to offer more
competitively priced high performance digital projectors to an increasingly
price sensitive global market."
According
to Oishi, the announcement of the new China facility follows on
the heels of last month's acquisition of Lightware and comes at
a time when PLUS® is rapidly becoming a leading brand of high
performance digital projectors and communications products in the
North American marketplace. "Last year, we increased our North
American sales of digital projectors by 75% and introduced the world's
first series of 3-lb. digital projectors. Our growth targets for
2001 are even more ambitious and we look for the new China facility
to help us meet our aggressive sales and market share objectives."
In
addition to sales of its branded projectors, the company is now
a leading OEM equipment supplier for a number of prominent projector
companies. "As a company, PLUS® is focused exclusively
on meeting the needs of mobile communications professionals. This
is the focus of our entire R&D effort," Oishi explained.
"Increasingly, therefore, this expertise is being put to use
by a growing number of companies that are becoming our OEM partners.
It is this combination of branded and OEM sales that will, we believe,
help to ensure our long-term success in the worldwide mobile presentations
and communications marketplace."
