Q4 What if I use a PDA (such as PalmPilot)?

Answer

Most personal data assistants (PDAs) have a hand-held hardware component that can be placed in some sort of docking device which allows you to synchronize data between the PDA and your PC. Most PDAs use a serial connection to transfer data. If you have only one serial port, or you connect the PoinTech to the same port you use for your PDA data synchronization, your PC cannot find PoinTech. This is because PDAs generally reserve a serial port when you power up your PC. To use PoinTech with such a serial port, close the synchronization software provided by your PDA vendor.

For example, to close Hot Sync for the PalmPilot TM :
1. Disconnect the PoinTech serial cable from PoinTech.
# Note - If you do not disconnect the serial cable, the Hot Sync application will not shut down.
2. Right click on the Hot Sync icon in the Windows System Tray (in the lower right corner of the Desktop by default, near the clock).

3. Select Exit from the pop-up menu.
Once you close the PDA synchronization software you can attach PoinTech to your current whiteboard session.
# Note - Most synchronization programs automatically load when you start Windows. Each time you restart Windows and you want to use PoinTech and software, you must turn off synchronization software. You may also remove PDA synchronization software from your Windows Startup group.
4.Reconnect the PoinTech serial cable.
You can now run the PoinTech application or ActiveMouse.
