LIGHTWARE UNVEILS
FIRST-EVER FIVE POUND PERSONAL PROJECTOR
New LCD Projector Breaks Size, Weight
and Cost Barriers
BEAVERTON,
OR
January 11, 1999 The ultimate portable LCD projector - one-third
smaller and lighter than any competitive product - has been introduced
by Lightware, the technology leader in ultra-portables. About the
size of a laptop computer and available for around $3,000,* Scout
is the ultimate business projector for anyone who delivers presentations
or gives training.
With
a volume of less than 300 cubic inches and 500 lumens, Lightware's
new projector provides customers the luxury of having a high quality
projected image without the weight, size or cost traditionally associated
with high performance projectors. For the first time, traveling
presenters can pack-up a projector and a hand-held computer together
in a complete package for under eight pounds.
"Scout
revolutionizes the meaning of portability," said Mark Reed, president
and CEO, Lightware. "You can slip our projector and a laptop into
a single travel bag that fits easily under an airplane seat or into
an overhead compartment."
Reed
predicts that Scout's combination of low price and light weight
will encourage companies to arm their sales forces and marketing
teams with personal projectors, and that companies and schools will
find a wide variety of new applications for this product.
"We
have created a product that could transform what has been a niche
segment into a huge consumer market," explains Duane Benson, director
of marketing, Lightware. "We knew that meant coming up with a lightweight,
easy-to-use and affordable projector -- essentially a projector
that anyone can afford and easily use. Lightware's objective is
to make products that accommodate the needs of the largest customer
set."
Scout
projects high quality VGA through XGA images from PCs, Macs and
hand-held computers. Scout also features dual built-in two-watt
stereo speakers for multimedia applications.
Scout
has a single panel, full-color, 1.6-inch polysilicon LCD engine
and a 200-watt metal halide lamp, which offers the presenter more
than 500 hours of life. In 1996, Lightware became the first company
to offer a sub-10-pound high performance LCD projector. More recently,
Lightware became the first to break the $3,000 price barrier. Now,
with the introduction of Scout, Lightware acquires another industry
benchmark and sets a new industry standard for portability.
Starting
in February 1999, Scout will be available through Lightware and
leading resellers of electronic presentation systems in the U.S.,
Canada and worldwide.
Lightware's
LCD projectors are used for computer and video presentations in
business, training and educational applications. The veteran management
and product development teams have more than 50 years of projection
industry experience and hold numerous patents.
Lightware
distributes its products through leading resellers of electronics
and presentation systems in the U.S., Canada and worldwide.
